In this episode, I go through my journey as a podcaster and how it has changed my life, working from 9-5 to anywhere!
LISTEN:
Welcome to my offbeat journey, the first one for 2021!
Wow, this year feels like it’s flying by!
Today, I wanted to talk about my podcasting journey because it has been a crazy one.
If you’re new here, you may not know that I started my show in the fall of 2017.
I started The Offbeat Life because I wanted a creative outlet, and knew that I wanted a freedom lifestyle.
I didn’t know how to get started and have met such amazing people throughout my travels who were able to work from anywhere and travel.
This is when my topic idea for my podcast came to life.
I realized that I wanted to how to work from anywhere as a remote entrepreneur and what better way to understand the lifestyle than my going right to the source!
So, I began to contact the people I knew and introduce myself to people who were killing it at their game as remote workers.
Then, I recorded and my podcast was published… the end!
Joking!
Did you know that it actually took me 6 months to hit publish on my show?
I was so afraid to share it with the world, I was getting paralysis of analysis and thought I needed everything to be perfect…
I was so intimidated because I was not very technical, and honestly… it was all about my fear and mindset.
But thankfully, I was about to get out of my own head and finally hit publish after 6 months of overthinking…
And thank god I did, because having this podcast has literally changed my life!
After 3 months of starting my show I was featured in Refinery29, after 6 months I landed my first brand sponsorship and after 1.5 years I was able to leave my 9-5 to do this full-time.
Because of this podcast, I have been able to get paid to travel the world and interview the most incredible people. Work with huge brands, and have met the most amazing people because of my show who are now my best friends!
But let me tell you, it was not an easy road.
When I started I was still in my 9-5 and worked a ton!
I would work my day job for 7-8 hours and then come home and work about 6-7 hours on my podcast.
It was absolutely non-stop and it took a toll on my health and personal relationships.
When I say it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears…
That is literally what happened.
It took me a long time to realize and understand that without having balance no amount of success is worth it.
I few valuable lessons I have learned are…
- Learn how to balance work and personal. When you are just starting out, it can be easy to focus solely on your work. But don’t forget to spend time with the people you love. Take time every day not working and at least 1 day a week not connected to your phone or laptop.
- Delegation is key to the growth of your business. Without delegating work, I would still be working on tedious tasks that would not help my business grow. Today, I have a team of 5 and without my team, I would not be able to keep sane!
- It is possible to do everything on your own, but getting a mentor to help you will allow you to succeed faster. Remember you are paying an expert not only for their knowledge but also the systems they have created that would take you years to uncover or if even at all. When I finally made the investment to get the help that I needed, I was able to grow sustainably!
Believe me, the success I have accomplished has not come easy. But, I am so glad that I have been able to create my boundaries and place as a podcaster and remote entrepreneur.
And I am so excited to share that in the last few months, I have been able to offer my expertise to newbie podcasters or current podcasters who want to start growing their business.
I am fortunate enough to be able to make podcasting a sustainable income because it has helped me grow my business!
These lessons I have learned from years of learning and creating systems are now available to a select few who want to grow or start a business using their podcast.
The systems and knowledge I share have literally changed my life, and now I want to do the same for you.
