What is a travelling vlog?

Before you even think about starting, you might want to know what a travelling vlog actually is.

A vlogger films themselves exploring new locations, usually with commentary or narration along the way.

It can be anything from showcasing the sights and sounds of the city, to following someone’s experiences abroad.

These types of vlogs are often aimed at inspiring others to travel, so be sure that this is something that you’re passionate about before you begin.

If you want to start your own vlog then it’s worth considering the reasons behind why you’re doing it in the first place.

A travelling vlog isn’t just a fun hobby or a way to share your life with others.

You’ll need to commit yourself to make regular videos and sharing them online.

It’s important that you’re doing this for the right reasons such as helping others, inspiring people, and having fun!

What equipment will I need?

To create your own travelling vlog you’ll need a decent camera, tripod, and microphone.

Best cameras for vlogging

There are several different types of cameras that you can choose from.

If you’re on a tight budget then you might want to consider a digital camera or phone with video capabilities.

Best Digital cameras:

Vlogging Camera, 4K Digital Camera for YouTube with WiFi

Digital Camera Vlogging Camera with YouTube 30MP Full HD

If you have a little bit more money to spend then a DSLR camera will give you the best quality footage.

Best DSLR cameras:

Canon DSLR Camera [EOS 90D] | Vlogging Video Creator Kit

Canon EOS M6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera for Vlogging

Canon Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera [EOS R]| Vlogging Camera

However, as the saying goes ‘the best camera is the one that you have on you at all times’.

This means that if your cell phone has video capabilities then it’s worth considering using this as well.

If you’re going to be doing a lot of traveling and don’t want to miss any footage then using different recording devices can be beneficial.

Also, having multiple cameras on hand will allow you to create more visual content.

For example, you could film yourself in one clip using your DSLR then use your phone camera for some B roll add-ins such as scenery shots.

Best microphones for travelling vlog

When it comes to sound, you’ll need a microphone that’s good quality and with good sensitivity.

There are several different types of microphones including lavalier and shotgun mics.

The most important thing is to make sure it picks up your voice clearly without any background noise.

Here are some of the best microphones to get for vlogging:

Moukey Camera Microphone, Video Microphone with Shock Absorber

Slint Lapel Microphone 2 Pack- Clip-On Microphones

Movo VXR10 Universal Video Microphone

What tripods to use

When it comes to tripods, there are a few different options that you can choose from.

You’ll want to find one that is lightweight and easy to carry around but also steady enough for filming.

Whatever tripod you get will need to have the capability to be easily extended and attached to the top of your camera.

So, if you’re on the move and want to capture that quick shot then it’s worth getting one that is quick to set up.

Here are some of the best tripods:

ULANZI MT-08 Extension Pole Tripod

UBeesize Tripod S, Premium Flexible Phone Tripod with Wireless Remote

Camera Tripod, Etour Lightweight Tripod Holder, Adjustable

Stabilizers to help you vlog

If you’re going to be recording lots of footage by yourself then a steadicam or a stabilizer can make a huge difference.

When filming yourself in front of the camera it’s easy for your hands to shake and move around.

This means that any footage recorded will look unprofessional and could ruin your video altogether.

An excellent way to prevent this from happening is by using a stabilizer that will hold your camera and keep it steady.

There are plenty of these types of devices out there so whether you want a stationary one or a handheld one, find the right device for you.

Here are some of the best stabilizers:

Best camera stabilizer for DSL and mirrorless cameras:

DJI Ronin-SC – Camera Stabilizer

ZHIYUN Crane M2 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer

Best camera stabilizer for smartphones:

DJI OM 4 – Handheld 3-Axis Smartphone Gimbal Stabilizer

DJI Osmo Mobile 3 Combo – 3-Axis Smartphone Gimbal Handheld Stabilizer

What software should I use?

Once you’ve filmed your travelling vlog, you’ll need to edit the footage and put it all together before uploading.

To do this you’ll need video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.

There are many other options available that range from free to paid versions.

Best software for video editing:

Filmora9: It is a great software for beginners since it is easy to use and allows you to create professional videos without any previous editing experience.

Adobe Premiere Pro: It is powerful and versatile for both novice users and professionals looking to cut their teeth on a larger scale, this software has become the standard in video editing.

How to make money from traveling vlogging

If you want to make money there are several options available for you.

The first and most common way is to run advertisements on your videos before uploading them online.

YouTube then shares the revenue with you.

Alternatively, another way that vloggers are making money these days is by charging for sponsorships or product placements in their videos.

But, this is something that you can do once you understand what your audience wants and needs.

How often should I upload videos?

Your filming schedule is completely up to you!

However, what’s important is that you’re consistent with your uploading time so that people know when to expect a new video from you.

It’s also beneficial for you to have a schedule so that you can plan to film and edit in advance.

There are several vloggers who upload once a week, every other day or every day depending on what works best for them.

So don’t feel pressured to get the next video published straight away – take your time and get it right.

You’ll be glad you took the time to do this when your videos are regular, well structured, and engaging for everyone who watches them.

travelling vlog

What types of things should I vlog about?

This is something that you need to think long and hard about.

Everyone has a different type of traveling blog based on what excites them.

Maybe you love showing off your hometown, or maybe you want to explore the world and share your adventures with others.

The easiest way is to think about what would make YOU happy if you were watching a video online.

Would you enjoy seeing B roll shots of scenic views?

Or maybe you’d love to know more about the person who’s filming and hear their story?

There are no hard and fast rules as long as you’re having fun with what you’re doing.

But as a general rule, it helps if your video is focused on a theme or topic.

Here are a few examples of travel vlogging themes:

  • Travel diaries
  • City guides
  • Reviews of restaurants, hotels, etc.
  • Family travel
  • Moving and living abroad

It could be a mix of different genres which is entirely up to you.

Just know that it’s easier to find an audience if people can easily relate to what you’re filming about.

Pros and Cons of being a travel vlogger

There are a ton of benefits that come from being a traveling vlogger, but let’s start with the downsides.

Remember that you’re going to be putting your face out there for everyone to see and critique.

This means that anything negative said about you online will affect your reputation.

You’ll need to think about this from the start and build a strong online presence to stand up against any haters.

After all, the internet is a cruel place so it’s important to be prepared!

The other negative point of being a travel vlogger is that you’re going to have to spend time away from your friends and family while you move around.

So if you plan on doing this for a living then it’s important to ask yourself: can I spend months at a time away from my loved ones?

Now, let’s talk about the benefits:

Travel vloggers get to see the world and show others what they’re seeing.

It’s a creative outlet for people who enjoy filming and creating videos.

Another great benefit of starting a vlog is that you can make money from your videos.

There are a few different ways to make money from YouTube videos:

Google ads – These pop up over your video and can be a great way to make extra cash.

Product placements – You can sign an agreement with a company to mention and promote their products in your video.

Sponsorships – This is another way to get paid by companies who want you to tell people about their products and services.

But, there’s a catch!

You’ll need to have a following that’s enthusiastic about the content that you’re creating if you want to make any money.

This means that you’ll need to put in the work before you see the rewards, but if you’ve got this then you can consider travel vlogging as a viable career option!

How do I start my own travel vlog?

Now that you’ve thought about the different types of traveling vlogs and what excites you, it’s time to make a plan.

You can either dive in and start filming and editing, or you can be more organized and research how other travel vloggers got started.

Coming up with a step-by-step plan before you start filming will help you stay focused on what’s important and prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed.

So let’s look at some of the steps:

Step 1: Work out your story and what will make people want to keep watching.

Every video has to have a beginning, middle, and end.

Start by thinking about some of your favorite travel vloggers and how they started out.

For example, maybe some of them discussed how they wanted to move to a new city but didn’t really know anyone there?

Their first video could then be all about their first few days in the new place and how they feel about it so far.

Step 2: Plan out what your first video will be about.

Rather than diving in and filming anything that comes to mind, sit down with a pen and paper to brainstorm the topic for your very first video.

You can then narrow it down by asking yourself these questions:

Will this promote the location I’m at?

Will this promote me or my brand?

Is there a big event happening near me that I can film for my first video?

travelling vlog

Step 3: Figure out how much time you have each day to film.

If you want to keep your subscribers entertained and coming back for more, then it’s important to release a steady stream of videos.

That way they’ll never be left wondering what happened to the travel vlogger they were following – this is really important if you want people to watch your videos!

So think about how much time you have each day and how you can structure your filming schedule to accommodate that.

Step 4: Learn the basics of video editing

Technology is constantly changing, but it’s important to always learn the latest skills for any new job you take on.

Luckily, there are plenty of free tutorials available online and on YouTube that will teach you how to use free editing software like iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, and Final Cut Pro.

Step 5: Start your website and social media accounts for your vlogging adventures.

These are the easiest ways to start growing your audience so you can start making money!

It’s also a good idea to set up your very own domain name (like www.yourvlogsname.com) because this will help you grow your online presence and establish yourself as an influencer in the community!

Step 6: Find ways to promote all of your hard work.

Start by joining Facebook groups and forums related to your travelling vlog niche.

For example, if your blog is about traveling in Southeast Asia, there are plenty of Facebook groups all about that!

You can also contact other travel vloggers in the community and see if they’d be interested in doing a collaboration with you.

This will help you both grow your audience and establish yourself as an expert!

If you do a collaboration, try to film at least two videos together so people can get excited about it and know you well.

Step 7: Stay organized.

Finally, once you start filming and growing your audience, you need to stay on top of all the new opportunities coming in.

You don’t want to miss out on any opportunities because you’re too overwhelmed with all of your daily tasks!

So set up a schedule for everything you need to do, like contacting travel brands for sponsorship.

It’s also important to have an editorial calendar so you know what videos are coming up and when they’ll be released.

Step 7: Find help when you need it!

Just like anything else, running your own travel vlog is a lot of work and it can be overwhelming – especially in the beginning!

So don’t be afraid to hire help when you need it.

Don’t know how to edit or do graphic design?

There’s plenty of freelancers on sites like Fiverr who will be happy to help with a reasonable price!

You can also check out this book: So You Want to Vlog?: How to start from scratch, find your voice & share your stories

It’s a great book that breaks down all of the essentials you need to know about starting a vlog.

Why you should start a travelling vlog

Like I said earlier if you haven’t been vlogging before it is important to make sure you do it for the right reasons.

If you’re passionate about something, don’t let fear hold you back.

Go out there and show the world what you have to offer!

Here are some reasons why you should start your travel vlog:

You are your own boss!

Nobody can tell you that things need to be done differently or how to look or speak on camera because it’s your channel!

It’s your creativity and personality that people are subscribing to, so rock it out and show the world what you’re made of.

There are so many new opportunities available to you.

You can network with other vloggers, promote yourself on social media and work with brands just by being creative!

And, if you’re lucky enough to get to this stage, you can start working towards making money from your vlog!

Now that you know all about why you should start, it’s time to go out there and get doing it!

So, what are you waiting for?

Gather your camera equipment together, come up with a topic, film your first video and upload it to YouTube!

What is a lifestyled blog?

A lifestyle blog is a type of content creation that typically focuses on personal style, beauty, health, fitness, recipes, travel, and much more.

The best part about starting your own lifestyle blog is that it doesn’t have to be extremely difficult or expensive.

All you need to get started is a computer with an internet connection and a few hours of your day (to write posts, take pictures, edit pictures, etc).

Setting up your blog is actually pretty easy if you know what you’re doing.

Lucky for you, I’ve written this guide with the intention of helping YOU get started creating a lifestyled blog from scratch!

Is lifestyle blogging right for you?

Before you get started, you should think about how much time and effort you are willing to put into creating content for your blog.

Like any other type of platform, a lifestyled blog requires regular writing and updating in order to keep your readers engaged.

If you aren’t expecting anything out of starting your own blog except maybe a creative outlet, then you should go for it!

On the other hand, if you are expecting a ton of money on your blog right out of the gate, then this might not be your best option just yet.

It’s important that you have the right expectations before deciding whether or not it is something that you want to do for a living.

A few things that you need to know about starting a lifestyle blog:

content planner

This 10-page blog content planner can be printed to use all year long and will help you break down tasks into manageable chunks!

It’s not free!

If you want your website to look beautiful and professional, then you need to invest in some type of web hosting and theme.

Think about how much you would charge someone for your time if they wanted you to build them a brick-and-mortar store with all the bells and whistles.

You would probably charge at least a few thousand dollars (if not much more) for the keys to your newly built store, right?

Well, it’s no different when it comes to building an online business.

It will take time!

Remember that you are completely in control of how quickly your blog grows and what it becomes.

The best bloggers are the ones that consistently create quality content for their readers to enjoy, so make sure you set aside some time each day to work on your blog.

It depends on what niche you choose!

We’ve seen lifestyle blogs come in all shapes and sizes, but it’s important to remember that not all niches are created equal.

In other words, some options will be much more profitable than others so you should do your research to cover yourself!

Not all niches will be profitable.

If you choose something too specific, there probably won’t be enough people searching for it online in order to make a substantial amount of money.

That being said, if you want to create a lifestyled blog that is more than just a hobby and what you would want to do full-time, then you should consider a niche that has enough interest but not too much that your competition will be too hard.

A few profitable niches:

Fashion and style

Food and cooking

Parenting

Home decor and design

Travel and adventure.

Do you see a trend in the type of niche that is profitable?

It’s one that focuses on visual content like fashion, food, parenting, home decor, and travel!

If you don’t think that you would be able to create top-notch pictures and videos for your blog (or if you simply don’t want to do it), then you will need to pay someone else to do it for you.

Fortunately, there are plenty of website design companies out there that will be more than happy to help out for a reasonable price.

You can visit sites like Fiverr to get affordable and quality content.

Lifestyle blog niche ideas

Before you get started, you should have a plan in place regarding what type of content your blog will be centered around.

It’s okay if it changes over time – even the best bloggers have evolved their style and content from the early beginning!

A few types of popular lifestyle blogging include:

Fashion

A fashion lifestyle blog would focus on the latest trends in fashion, beauty tips, and the best places to find cute clothes at affordable prices.

This type of blog would probably be read and shared the most by women, but you could also branch out into men’s fashion as well.

If you love fashion and enjoy writing about it, this could be a perfect niche for you!

Not only will it make people more interested in what you have to say, but it could really help with brand partnerships once the blog gains some traction.

lifestyled blog

How to start your lifestyled blog and make money

Once you have chosen your blog’s niche, it’s time to focus on starting the actual blog!

This means coming up with a catchy name, finding the perfect URL (domain), hosting the site, and getting ready to start writing.

Choosing your lifestyle blog name

A great way to come up with ideas for your new blog’s name is to brainstorm a list of topics that are important to you.

For example, if you choose to focus on food and recipes, list out words that are associated with these posts.

These words could be “dinner,” “baking,” or anything else that is relevant!

This list of words will help you come up with blog names that are perfect for your site.

Make sure that your name is recognizable and your potential audience will automatically understand what the blog is about!

Remember clear is better than clever.

Once you’ve decided on your blog’s name, it’s time to choose your hosting plan.

Choosing a hosting plan for your blog

A hosting plan is necessary to have a fully functional blog. It is where your blog is stored so people can read it.

This part of starting a lifestyle blog may seem complicated if this is your first time blogging.

Luckily, there are tons of great places to find affordable hosting plans.

For newbie bloggers we recommend Bluehost.

They’re very beginner-friendly and they offer dedicated WordPress hosting plans as well as a free domain name.

They are also super affordable and have a special $2.75/month deal on all new hosting plans!

For bloggers who are ready to invest a little more, we suggest WPEngines hosting plan.

They offer high-performance hosting that’s perfect for serious bloggers.

The cost is a bit higher at $22.50/month for the basic plan but it’s worth it for the power of the site.

Another company that we highly recommend is Siteground.

They have a variety of hosting plans that have high customer satisfaction rates.

We suggest purchasing their GrowBig plan which starts at $6.69/month and is a great option for bloggers who are ready to scale up their blog!

Once you’ve chosen the right plan for you, follow their instructions carefully to set up your site.

For more details on how to set up your Bluehost account and other tips, you can check out this ultimate guide to amateur blogging.

Deciding on a domain

A domain is the web address that links back to your website.

You can find these on any site and they should be .com, .net, or .org to keep things simple!

It’s very important that you purchase your domain from a reputable company so your site isn’t hacked.

When it comes to blogging, safety is key!

For beginners, we recommend BlueHost as they not only offer hosting but you can get your domain name for free, using the link here!

lifestyled blog

It is a good idea to also choose a domain name that’s the same as your blog name.

That is why it is important to check if your blog name is available for your website and social media accounts before you get attached.

Once you’ve picked your blog’s name and purchase your domain, it’s time to set up your site!

Setting up your blog theme

A great way to personalize your blog without being a professional graphic designer is to purchase a pre-made theme.

Your theme will be the look of your blog so you want to make sure you get something that is visually appealing and easy to navigate!

A great place to choose your blog theme is with WPEngine’s Studio Press which has a ton of WordPress templates that are user-friendly and customizable.

Once you’ve chosen your design, it’s time to make the finishing touches!

Add a logo and branding to your blog

One of the most important parts of your blog is its branding.

Your logo will be the first thing that people see when they land on your site so it’s important to have a great-looking image!

You can create a professional logo for free using Canva.

Canva is an online graphic design tool with thousands of free images, icons, and fonts that you can use to create the perfect logo for your blog.

If you’re looking to invest a little more into your brand we suggest checking out 99 Designs, where you can design your own logos with professional graphic designers at affordable prices starting at $99!

When designing your logo it is important to remember the following:

1. Fonts should be the same across all the social media accounts and your blog

2. Use a color scheme that works well with your branding!

3. Keep it simple!

4. Make sure to use a high-resolution image so it looks sharp on retina screens!

5. Get creative, you don’t need to hire someone to design a logo!

Once you’ve created your logo, you can use it to further customize your site!

lifestyled blog

Create Pinterest Pins for your blog posts

Pinterest is one of the top social media websites for bloggers and it’s super simple to create pin images!

You can use Canva or Adobe Spark to make these images quickly.

We suggest using a photo from your post, adding unique text, and uploading it to your article so it can be pinned and saved by your readers.

A few other things to do in order to attract more readers to your pins are:

1. Try to vary up what you pin regularly so your followers are engaged!

3. Use eye-catching titles for all of your pins!

4. Pin about five times a day to keep your blog moving in the Pinterest ranks!

5. Add pictures that are relevant to your blog posts!

Once you finish creating your pins, you can integrate them into your blog by adding Pinterest Widget to your site!

You can free plugins like Social Warfare to make pinning from your blog post easy for your readers.

Adding other blog features

Once you’ve chosen your blog theme it’s time to add some cool features to your website!

Icons and widgets are great ways to personalize your site and give visitors easy access to links such as social media accounts, email lists, or even affiliate links.

A few other things to consider are:

1. Make sure you add social share buttons to your blog posts! You can use Social Warfare for this plugin.

2. Keep your widgets up to date with any new features or changes on associated sites!

3. Don’t over-clutter your site with too many plugins because this will slow down your website.

Once you’ve added these features, it’s time to start writing posts for your blog that will attract followers!

Writing for your lifestyled blog

Creating content for your blog is the most important part of blogging!

The more content you add, the more likely it is that you will attract readers and gain traffic to your site.

Here are a few things to consider when writing about different topics:

1. What can YOU bring to the table?

2. Try to create content that has your unique take on the subject.

3. What are your readers looking for?

4. Ask questions, this will encourage engagement on the site!

5. Don’t try to copy other bloggers’ work, plagiarism will get you banned by Google and it’s just not cool!

Once you have chosen an idea for a blog post, make sure you use the proper keywords in your article!

Adding keywords to your blog posts

Keywords are an important part of any blog post because they help people find your site when searching for topics on Google.

When writing your blog posts, try to use the main keywords at the beginning of your article.

Including these keywords in your articles will also help you rank better for certain topics on Google!

But you don’t want to overdo it when using one keyword because this can trigger a red flag from Google and get your site banned.

Find the right keywords

In order to find the right keywords, you will need to do some research.

There are many keyword research tools that you can use including Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, and SEMrush.

These tools will allow you to look up the most popular keywords associated with your topic so it’s important that you choose different keywords for each blog post!

We personally use KeySearch as our main keyword tool as it is easy to use and generates great results!

In order to use KeySearch you simply type a few words you would use to search for that topic.

For example, if you wanted to write a blog post about purple shoes, you might type in words like “best purple heels”, “affordable purple shoes”, or “popular purple shoes”.

Once you’ve typed your keywords into the search bar, KeySearch will give you results for those keywords and give you other similar phrases!

They will then show you information such as the volume which tells you how many times these keywords are being searched per month, as well as the score, which tells you how easy or hard it is to rank for this keyword.

The higher the score, the harder it is to get on the first page of Google.

So if you are a new lifestyled blog, it is best to target keywords that are scored 30 or less.

But the key is to find a keyword that is a low score but with a high search volume.

We know this may seem overwhelming, don’t worry!

With enough practice, you will get the hang of it and become an expert.

Types of Blog Posts

There are many different types of blog posts that you can write for your lifestyled blog.

Some examples include:

How-tos

To write a how-to article, the first step is to create a list of information that you would like to share.

Once you have your list, organize it into an easy-to-read article with bullet points and short paragraphs.

While writing this type of blog post, try being as clear and concise as possible!

A few examples of this type of article are how to take care of your hair, how to change the oil in your car, or how to make french toast.

Product Reviews

For a product review, you will want to include a list of information about the product.

You may also want to include a list of benefits and why someone would need or want this product!

Before writing your review, do some research on the product so you have an understanding of what it is and how it works.

Then, break down each feature of the product and explain each benefit!

This type of article is great for reviewing affiliate marketing products. If you do a great job, it can lead to a lot of sales.

Listicle articles

Listicle posts are a great way to get readers engaged with your blog!

A few examples are: “10 Amazing Travel Hacks”, “5 Ways to Organize Your House”, “10 Must-Have Beauty Products for Summer”.

Each item should be concise so that people can read the whole list with a better understanding of your content that has answered their questions.

These types of articles will not only keep the reader interested, but they will also encourage them to come back for more!

DIY articles

This type of blog post will require you to share a list of supplies needed, followed by an explanation on how to put the item together.

For DIY articles, explain each step in detail with illustrations or videos to go along with it!

When writing this type of blog post, be sure that your steps are easy to follow and simple for anyone to recreate.

Round-ups

A round-up blog post will require you to list several different things in one place!

To write a round-up article, start by choosing your topic.

You can choose something broad like “5 Stores for Perfect Workout Clothes” or something specific like “5 Stores to find the Perfect Tights”.

Once you have your topic chosen, it’s time to list out items that fit into your topic.

It is important that you include images for each item with links to go to the stores’ websites!

Writing an engaging blog post

Once you have decided on the type of post you would like to write, you’re ready to start!

When writing a blog post, always keep your audience in mind.

Think of topics that they will care about and be willing to share with their friends.

Be sure to write short paragraphs and include bullet points for easier reading.

Include images or videos when it makes sense.

Finally, ALWAYS proofread your post!

Spelling and grammar errors can leave a bad impression on readers.

If you don’t have the time to proofread, hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you!

Marketing Your Blog Posts

Now that you’ve created your blog post, you’re ready to share it with the world!

There are many different outlets that you can share your content on.

Social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram are great places to start!

Creating an account on these sites will allow you to link back to your blog so the more views you get there, the more viewers will come to your site!

Another great place you can promote your blog posts is on subreddits.

A subreddit is a forum of sorts where people of similar interests gather.

People will often post about their favorite topics on these subreddits asking for advice or feedback on something they created!

Searching and sharing on the subreddits about your topic may provide you with more viewers and comments on your blog posts!

Finally, you can promote your blog post by emailing your friends and subscribers with the link to your post!

They may share it on social media or come to your blog for more information.

Monetizing your blog posts

Once you have created unique and engaging blog posts, you may want to start monetizing your blog!

There are many different ways to earn money from your blog, here are a few you can do to start making money as a beginner:

Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you place links to websites with products that are relevant to your audience and article.

For example, if your blog is about running.

You may want to place product links on running shoes or watches that go along with your article!

The more purchases you get, the more money you make!

Be sure to check out this article for more information about how you can maximize your earnings as an affiliate marketer.

Paid posts

If you want to create sponsored blog posts, do some research on popular brands in your industry.

Be sure to check out the brand’s social media and website for information on how you can contact them!

Once you have found a company that is interested, create an agreement.

Make an outline of what your post will be about and how long it needs to be before sending it over to the company for approval.

If you are just starting out you may not get paid but they may offer free items in exchange for a post.

This can be a great way to get free products to review on your blog and allow you to have experience working with brands.

Display ads

Banner advertisements are the perfect way to make money from your blog.

Many websites, including Google Adsense, use banner ads as a way to earn revenue for their site!

Ads will appear on the side of your website or above your blog posts.

Once you have found an advertisement network to place ads on your site, try placing them within your blog posts!

However, to earn the most money, you’ll have to have lots of traffic coming to your site.

With these quick tips, you’re ready to start promoting your blog posts and making money online!

How to Make Money Online Blogging About Dogs and Cats

If you are an animal lover then you may have considered starting a blog about dogs and cats.

Today, people are getting their news from social media or blogs rather than from traditional media outlets.

That is why blogging about dogs and cats can be a great way to not only share your passion for pets with others but also make money doing what you love.

But it’s also important that you find the right niche so that your articles will be seen by people who love animals as much as you do.

In order to do this, you need to know how to choose a topic that is relevant and also allows you to monetize your website.

Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with fresh ideas for the content on your blog, so I have included some tips on finding ideas as well as some tips on how to write great content.

The key here is not only being original but also being consistent.

What does it mean to be a blogger?

A blogger is someone who writes about their life or interests on a website for other people to read.

Sometimes bloggers use their blogs to share content relevant to a specific topic, like how-to articles or product reviews.

Other times, blogs are written for the blogger’s own enjoyment.

No matter what type of blog you decide to create, it is important that you understand how blogging works in terms of traffic and monetization.

Lucky for you, this post will cover how to find content ideas for your blog, search engine optimization (SEO), monetizing your site, and more.

Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before You Start Blogging About Dogs and Other Animals

Before you create a blog and start writing about animals, there are some things you should be aware of.

Here are some questions to think about before you get started:

  • What does your blog aim to do?
  • Would you like to help people solve a problem or find a solution?
  • Or do you want to entertain people by writing about your interests and hobbies?
  • Who are your competitors?
  • Will this be a hobby or a full-time business?

Think about this for a minute, because it is important to understand why you are starting your blog.

Knowing this will help you know what type of content is already out there.

You also need to decide what sets you apart from all the other blogs about dogs, cats, and related topics.

Once you have a thorough understanding of how blogging works with regard to traffic and monetization, then it’s time to come up with a topic.

How to Choose the Right Topic and Niche

It is important that you are passionate about the topic that you choose for your blog.

If you are just starting out, it can be hard to find a topic that will interest both you and your target audience.

That is why I recommend choosing a niche where you have some prior experience or knowledge.

What I mean by this is that it is OK if you don’t know everything about the topic that you end up choosing, but you should go into it with a sense of “I can figure this out.”

For example, I used to have a 9-5 but wanted to start working remotely.

I wanted to be able to work from anywhere, but I was not an online worker yet.

When I decided to start my own blog, I knew that I wanted to write about remote work and digital nomadism because it is something that has always interested me.

Over time, as I learned more about this subject, my passion for location independence grew even stronger and I became an expert in the field!

And this can be the same for you as well, as long as you are willing to learn more about the topic that you choose.

Even if you are an expert in your field, it is important to look at the competition and see what others are writing about so that you can either avoid those topics or offer a fresh perspective on them.

How to Choose a Blogging Platform

The next step towards starting your own blog is choosing a platform.

When I started, I knew that I wanted to do a WordPress website because it is so flexible and allows you to really customize your site.

There are also thousands of free WordPress themes, as well as many different plugins that can help enhance your blog post.

It is important, however, that you choose a blogging platform that has the functionality you need for your blog.

If you are just starting out, I recommend using a platform like WordPress to create your website.

WordPress will make it easy to manage your site, create a blog post, or even add a page.

There are other options out there for blogging platforms, such as Tumblr, SquareSpace, and Blogger.

But I personally think that WordPress is the most flexible and user-friendly, which is why it’s best for beginners.

Choosing the Right Hosting for Your Website

After you have chosen a platform, the next step is to choose a host for your website.

A hosting service allows you to upload content to a web server so that the information can be accessed by anyone via the internet.

There are many different kinds of hosting services such as free hosting and dedicated servers, but I recommend choosing something like WordPress hosting or shared hosting service.

These types of services are affordable and allow you to start blogging without having to worry about spending too much money too soon.

Here are several hosting companies that I would highly recommend:

For beginners: Bluehost

I loved using Bluehost when I started out.

They offer a free domain when you sign up, and the main advantage here is that WordPress installs automatically on all their domains.

What this means is that you can start your blog in five minutes or less!

They are also very affordable, with a shared hosting service starting at only $3.95 per month!

An added benefit is that they offer 24/7 customer support, which proved very valuable when I was first getting started.

For experienced bloggers: WPEngine

If you are already familiar with how WordPress works and want to do more advanced stuff with your website, then WPEngine is an excellent hosting service for you.

With WPEngine, you can install unlimited plugins and themes on your website.

WordPress hosting starts at only $22.50 per month, which is still very affordable if you are making money blogging!

Purchasing a Domain Name

Once you have made the decision on what platform and hosting to use, you need to purchase your domain name.

A domain is the web address for your blog.

For example, our domain name is theoffbeatlife.com

I purchased my domain through Bluehost for about $12.99 per year.

However, if you decide to go with a different hosting company than Bluehost then it likely will not include your free domain.

The other thing you need to get started is your blog theme.

A theme is a layout and design for your blog, which will include the colors and logos that appear on every page.

Choosing a Website Theme

You need to choose a theme that you like and that fits in with what you want to do.

I chose a paid WordPress theme because I wanted it to be user-friendly with a design that is customizable that fits in with my branding.

I personally love the WPEngine WordPress themes because they have an excellent variety of designs and color schemes.

The great thing about these themes is that they are also fully customizable.

I recommend playing around with the templates and designs to find something you like before continuing because this step can take some time!

How to Set Up Your Website Content

When you have your domain name, hosting service, and WordPress theme then you can start installing plugins and writing content for your blog.

The first thing I recommend doing is installing a plugin to help you with SEO (I will explain SEO in more detail below).

There are many SEO plugins out there, but I would start with the one that is simple and easy to use.

I personally use the Yoast SEO plugin on my blog because it tells you exactly what you need to do in order for search engines like Google to find your website.

Yoast SEO will also include many other helpful tools, such as internal linking between your posts, choosing the right keywords for your content, and analyzing your website.

Other plugins that I recommend using on your website are:

  • Link Whisperer – a plugin that allows you to automatically add internal linking to your posts, which can save you a lot of time.

Now that you have installed some plugins, it is time to write your content!

How to Write Great Content Blogging about Dogs and Cats

Now that you have installed the right plugins, it is time to get started with creating your blog post.

Here are a few ways you can write great articles:

  • Write about your personal experiences with your pets.

This is a great option if you already own a pet because it will help to make your content more unique and personal.

You can also share pictures of the pets in your post!

  • How-to articles about dogs or cats.

For example, an article about how to train your dog could be helpful for people who are looking to purchase a new pet.

If you choose this topic then you should try to provide tips that will be useful for the reader.

  • Reviews of products related to your pets

This is a great option if you purchase any products for your pets, but it can also be helpful to include reviews of pet-friendly restaurants and hotels.

You could also write an article about the cost of owning a dog or cat throughout their lifetime.

By writing these reviews, you may be able to provide readers with some helpful information that they can use.

blogging about dogs
  • Listicles about your animals

A listicle is a blog post that includes many different points, which are organized in a list format.

This can be helpful if you want to write about “10 different tips for owning a pet” because it will keep your reader interested and engaged!

As you can see there are many different topics that you can write about when blogging about dogs and cats.

If your topic is too broad then you may have a difficult time narrowing down the focus of your blog post.

I recommend choosing a topic that is specific and narrow so you can provide your readers with more helpful information.

Growing Your Audience Blogging About Dogs and Other Pets

Perhaps the most important thing that you should do when creating a blog is to build your audience.

In order to make money blogging about dogs and cats, you will need people reading your articles so that you can create a revenue stream.

Since there are millions of blogs on the internet, it might be difficult to get discovered by readers so this is why building an audience before monetizing your blog is important!

Here are a few ways to grow your blog’s audience:

  • Get backlinks from related websites.

Backlinks are links that point to your website, which is important for SEO since search engines look at backlinks as a vote of confidence in your site’s content!

In order to get a backlink, try reaching out to a blog that you read and think provides great content.

Most bloggers will be happy to provide a link on their website because it will help their readers as well!

It may take a while to build up a large number of backlinks, but each one will help with making your blog more successful.

  • Make videos for YouTube.

Youtube can bring in massive amounts of traffic to your website and it is not as hard as you think.

Just make an interesting video related to dogs or cats and upload it onto YouTube, then simply put the link or video on your website!

Not only will you gain views from your site, but also from YouTube watchers who search for related topics on the platform.

  • Pinterest Marketing.

Pinterest is one of the best social media sites for blogging because people are looking at pictures all day long.

If you have an interesting photo about dogs or cats, then it will likely be pinned hundreds of times!

This will lead to your website getting more traffic and hopefully building your audience!

SEO for Pet Blogs: What is Search Engine Optimization?

Now that you have an idea for a topic and you have started blogging about dogs and other animals, it is time to learn about search engine optimization (SEO).

If you do not know already, SEO is when people can find your website when they are searching for specific words or topics.

For example, if somebody searched for “how to train a puppy,” then you would want them to be able to find your website (if that is part of your niche).

Why would somebody search for something like, “how to train a puppy?”

Well if they are having trouble with training their new pet, then this person might type that phrase into the search engine or Google.

Additionally, if somebody was looking for tips on how to train a puppy then you want people to be able to find your website.

You are probably wondering how you can increase the chances that people will find your blog when they search for something related to your niche.

This is where SEO comes in!

There are many tricks and tips for writing content so that search engines will rank your website higher on their list, but it is very difficult to try everything at once.

However, there are a few things that I recommend trying in the beginning:

  • Use keywords when you can!

Keywords are words that people might search for when looking for information about your topic.

For example, if somebody were writing an article about how they train their dog, then they might want to use keywords such as “training a puppy” or “how to train a dog.”

  • Create a blog post title with your focus keyword.

This is the most important part of your article and it is what shows up on Google’s first page when people search for your topic.

  • Create some blog posts that are over 1,000 words!

This is another important aspect of SEO because people are more likely to visit your blog if they see some longer articles that will answer all the questions they may have.

Finding the Right Keywords

In order to find the right keywords, you might consider using a keyword search platform.

I am currently using KeySearch which is a tool that will allow you to find the best keywords to use when writing your blog posts.

Using Keysearch has literally changed my blogging experience.

Before using Keysearch, I would typically choose a few topics and then try to guess what keywords I should use.

I now know that this is not the best way to do things because it can be almost impossible to be found if you are not using the right keywords!

Once you have started using a search tool, you should select a word or phrase that is related to your topic and will be searched for often.

For example, if you are writing a blog post about different types of pet food then it would probably be a good idea to search for keywords like “best dog food” or “types of cat food.”

However, before using these keywords, you will need to know how popular they are.

If you have KeySearch then the tool will show how often people search for that keyword per month.

For example, I searched “types of dog food” and KeySearch showed that this phrase is searched about 1900 times per month!

But the competition is 45 out of 100 which is pretty high if you are competing with other big bloggers.

For new bloggers, the lower the score (30 or less) the better since there is less competition.

That is why finding a keyword that has low score competition but a high volume search is the holy grail of blogging.

Finally, you should also use the keyword throughout the article.

This is important for SEO and will help people find your blog more easily.

Google will crawl your website to see how many times you use the keyword.

If your article sounds like it is just filled with keywords then people will not want to read it and Google might think that this article has nothing of value to offer!

This means that you should try to use the keyword as much as possible without making it sound unnatural.

In the end, you want to provide the best possible article that will benefit your readers and drive traffic to your blog!

How to Make Money Blogging About Dogs and Cats

Making money with your blog is the ultimate goal for most bloggers.

I have been blogging for a few years now and I am finally starting to understand how to make money blogging.

It has not been an easy journey, but I am finally starting to see some success.

blogging about dogs

Here are a few things that I recommend doing for beginners and pros in order to create income:

  • Create digital products.

One of the best ways to make money blogging is by creating digital products.

It can be a PDF ebook, an infographic, or even a video on how to train your dog!

You can sell these products through your website and they are great for beginner bloggers since you do not need any experience!

Read this article to help you create the right digital product for your blog.

  • Affiliate Marketing.

Affiliate marketing is another way to make money blogging, and just like the previous example, it requires no experience.

Being an affiliate marketer means that you are selling someone else’s products on your own website.

You will receive a percentage of the sale when someone buys the product.

For example, if your blog is about dogs then you can sell products with the Amazon associates program.

You can add a link to a product from Amazon and when a reader buys that item, you will receive a percentage of the sale.

This is one of my favorite ways to make money blogging because it is so easy and requires little to no experience!

You can check out this article to help you get started with affiliate marketing.

  • Sell ad space on your website.

If you want to make money blogging then this is perhaps one of the best options since it is passive income.

Seriously, just opening up an account with Google Adsense and putting their code on your website can lead to them placing ads that pay you for clicks!

But I do have to warn you that this is one of the more difficult ways to make money blogging since you need a lot of traffic.

It is still possible if you are starting out, but it might be better to use another method described above until you have grown enough traffic on your website.

  • Sell coaching services.

Being a coach is lucrative because you can charge money helping people solve their problems.

There are many dog owners that would love to have a private trainer teach them how to train their dog, so this might be the perfect solution for you if you are an expert in dogs!

  • Sponsored Ads on Your Blog

If you have a large site then this might be one of the best ways to make money blogging.

Sponsored ads will be displayed on your blog and you get paid to create the content and not necessarily through clicks.

However, you can negotiate with the brands you are working with to get other incentives so you can make more money.

  • Email marketing.

This may not apply to everyone but you can make money by promoting other people’s products in your e-mails.

If you have a large number of subscribers then this will be more lucrative for you, but it is also difficult if you do not already have an audience.

People want to make money with their blog and there are many ways that they can go about doing this.

The best way is to create great content that people will want to read and give them what they want, which in most cases is information related to your niche.

Beginners Guide to Making Passive Income with Affiliate Programs

Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliate links, meaning at no additional cost to you, I will make a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

Hey there! I am so excited to have an incredible guest post today by Spencer Mecham who is a full-time affiliate marketer and course creator. He is the top affiliate of multiple companies and loves what he does. With the passive income, he earns he spends his time traveling with his family and playing pickleball.

Most people don’t start affiliate programs looking to create a passive income. Instead, they start out just looking for a side hustle.

Something that will bring in a couple extra hundred or thousand bucks a month.

And honestly, most don’t even get to that point.

But a few that persevere start to figure out the affiliate programs game. They start to realize the beauty of the business model, and if they stick with it long enough they usually manage to create a passive income with their affiliate programs business.

This is a guide on how they turn that side hustle into a passive income machine.

The Right Traffic

Most new affiliate marketers fail from the very beginning because they don’t use the right sources of traffic.

If you don’t know what I mean by traffic, I’m talking about the actual people that visit your website and affiliate links.

You are probably familiar with most traffic sources, though many affiliate marketers that are just starting don’t even realize that the platforms they have been on for years can actually be turned into sources of traffic for their affiliate marketing business.

Traffic can be broken into two different spheres. Traffic from search engines, and traffic from social media.

affiliate programs

Traffic from social media comes from sites like Facebook, Instagram, and the new kid on the block, Tik-Tok.

Traffic from search engines comes from sites like Pinterest, Google, and YouTube.

Where most affiliate marketers go wrong when they are searching for passive income is they tend to choose the social media traffic sources.

These sources do have a lot of potential to make money, but when you examine their algorithms, they tend to take the content you create and stop showing it within a few days.

You can contrast that with sites like Google, where you can create a piece of content on a blog that will continue to get reads and visitors for two, three, or even five years.

I could go make a piece of content on Tik-Tok right now and it would probably go viral. The result would be a couple hundred dollars in my pocket.

The problem with this is that content would disappear and I would have to start working again tomorrow to make more money.

However, I could make a YouTube video today, post it tomorrow, and there is a good chance that in two years that YouTube video will continue to get views.

If you want to make a passive income with affiliate programs, it all starts with the right traffic.

You need traffic that will continue to come to your affiliate links regardless of whether or not you are working and putting content on your chosen platform.

Affiliate Programs Conversion System

I can still remember my first major success with affiliate marketing. I had released a YouTube video on how to buy a specific cryptocurrency.

Unbeknownst to me, my video was actually really informative and YouTube promoted it to hundreds of thousands of people.

However, I had no way of making money off of this large audience that was viewing my video. I made a few commissions off of people that watched, but that is it. Once the video stopped getting shown by YouTube, I struggled to keep the business alive.

I soon realized that you need a way to capture and convert visitors to your content in the long run. This means that instead of someone visiting your content and then disappearing, you need to find a way to capture their information so you can market to them forever.

I’m going to break down the affiliate programs system for you right now.

Printable Blog Content Planner

This 10-page blog content planner can be printed to use all year long and will help you break down tasks into manageable chunks!

Lead Magnet

A lead magnet is the first place you should send all of your visitors to see your content. It doesn’t matter if they are seeing a blog post, a YouTube video, or a Tik-Tok video.

The purpose of a lead magnet is to capture someone’s email address so that they become part of your audience in the long run. You are now able to Market affiliate products to that person for years to come regardless of how well your YouTube channel or blog is doing.

All you need to do is create a simple page with a few words and a form to put in an email address. Offer your lead magnet as something that you will give them for free if they will put in their email address.

Now, instead of sending all of those visitors straight to affiliate links, you send them to this page. You start to build an email list. Now you are starting to build an actual affiliate marketing business.

Bridge Page

As soon as you capture an email address from someone that has viewed your content it is time to try and start selling.

The Way to do this in a passive way is using what is called a bridge page. A bridge page is simply a page that you send them to after they put in their email address. It is the first opportunity to introduce them to your favorite affiliate product.

Most of my bridge pages are very simple. They have a video that takes up the top half of the page, and a button that contains an affiliate link on the bottom half of the page. Here is an example.

affiliate programs

Picture this.

You decide to start learning about cryptocurrency. You head over to YouTube and search a few topics. One of the videos you watch tells you that they have free training that will teach you everything you need to know.

You click the link in the description and it takes you to a page where you put in your email address for the free training.

After you put in your email address, it takes you to another page where there is a video. The video is the same person who made the YouTube video.

He tells you about how he learned to trade crypto and actually make money. It was a course. And lucky you, there is a link down below and you can get the same course where he learned from.

Now the real beauty of the system is that even if you don’t click that affiliate link and go to buy the product, he now has your email address and he knows that you are interested in cryptocurrency.

He can now start sending you emails about the first product he promoted as well as many other cryptocurrency products. He will make affiliate commissions off of any product that you sign up for that he refers you to.

See the beauty?

Email Sequence

The final piece of the puzzle is the email sequence.

Once I realized how important capturing email addresses was in my affiliate marketing business I started to send people to opt-in pages on all of my videos.

I started to see a lot of success, and build a list of thousands of people. But, since my pursuit was passive income, it still didn’t feel right.

I had to send emails every day to keep nurturing the list and I had a lot of issues with people confused because they had just joined the list and didn’t understand what today’s email was about.

That’s when I started to learn about email sequences.

You can build email sequences ahead of time that will automatically be triggered when someone puts in their email address.

This means that when someone watches my YouTube video, puts in their email address, and decides to not buy the product on the bridge page, it automatically triggers a sequence of emails to continue and sell them that product.

After sending emails for a few weeks, it will move on and start to try and send emails for other products.

Now all of this can be done on complete automation if you are using the right email software to run it for you. It will look something like this inside of the software.

A Content Plan

Once you have chosen your traffic source and built your affiliate programs system all you need to do is start pushing content onto your passive traffic Source.

For me, the best places have been YouTube and my blog. I can pump out dozens of posts in a month as well as dozens of YouTube videos in a month.

The way I do this is simple, it is called batching.

First I do a ton of keyword research. I will type in my subject into the search bar of YouTube and I will see all the different subjects that YouTube gives me to talk about.

By the way, this works in Google too.

Once I have a list of about 15 videos that I want to make, I sit down and film them all in a single day. The next few days are of course spent editing.

Once these videos go live, they start to slowly get picked up by YouTube. Some of them will completely disappear, but others will take off and stay in YouTube search rankings for years.

Each time a viewer comes to YouTube and watches as my video, they are told to click my link to my opt-in page. Once they click that link they are introduced into my affiliate marketing system and I am able to sell them products for years to come.

I am able to do this passively, because I chose a passive source of traffic, and I chose a passive system for converting that traffic.

These two combined are the only way for an affiliate marketer to create a passive income.

Build a Tribe

I want to briefly touch on a very important piece of this puzzle. That is the idea of building a tribe.

My very first YouTube channel was extremely boring. I made tutorial videos with very little editing and a very dry Voice.

That channel did very well and has yielded me tens of thousands of dollars as well as tens of thousands of subscribers. Affiliate commissions come in every single day from that channel still, even though I do very little work on it.

My second YouTube channel was very energetic, I was way into the video, lots of editing, and very hyper.

This channel is doing really well also.

The point I am making is that any type of content can do well online, but you need to identify your audience and appeal to that audience.

Typically the best way to identify an appeal to an audience is to be yourself. I can almost guarantee you that there are thousands of people out there that can relate to everyone reading this article.

We often try to mimic or do the same thing other affiliate marketers do. This is not the way to succeed, because we need to see ourselves. You will find that there are people out there like you who connect best with your method of providing information.

Your affiliate programs effort will yield better income, and better passive income, as you learn to be yourself, create the right kind of content that appeals to the right kind of people, and send people through your affiliate marketing system.

Moving Forward

There are multiple ways of doing affiliate programs. Some people spend money on ads, some people do it on Instagram, but the method shown above is the only way to create an affiliate marketing business that yields passive income in the long run.

Every step of this system is built specifically to allow the affiliate marketer to pull out and spend less time selling and more time enjoying freedom.

Passive income comes when a system is followed for a long period of time. That system includes making content on a daily basis for a long period of time. You will likely need to make content for a year or more before the system is fully functional.

To me that is still worth it because you have to work 40 hours a week for 40 years at a regular job before you’re able to get to that same point.

Ultimate Guide to Amateur Blogging: Everything You Need to Know to Get Started

For many people, starting a blog seems like the ultimate dream.

You see it all the time, bloggers making 5-6 figures a month, traveling the world, and having the opportunity to do what they love.

And it is also one of the best online money-making careers you can do that will allow you to have more freedom.

However, this freedom comes with a lot of work that can seem overwhelming if you are just starting amateur blogging.

But no worries, because I will share with you the step-by-step process on how to start your own blog in a few steps.

Also, make sure to check out our article on the top 13 mistakes new bloggers make that you should avoid

What is Blogging?

First, let’s talk about what blogging actually is.

It means you will be writing about a specific topic that provides information, shares events, and/or situations that others would like to learn about.

Unlike educational or news articles, blogging is written by an individual or individuals who share information in a conversational style.

Which makes the writing so much more relatable and approachable.

Personally, that’s one of the things I love about blogging.

I can write a post that makes me feel like we are having a conversation rather than creating content that feels like a college essay.

Should you Start Amateur Blogging?

Before we get started, let’s talk about whether blogging is right for you. We know it can seem really exciting in the beginning, and believe me, I think it is too!

But, I want to make sure that you are starting amateur blogging for the right reasons and not because of the lifestyle that others are selling online.

You know blogging is right for you if:

  • You truly want to share information and help other people
  • You want to have more freedom with your life
  • You can be consistent and persistent with your content
  • You do not expect a get rich quick process and can stay focused with your goals even if you do not see results right away
  • You are willing to fail
  • You are willing to continuously learn and implement
  • You enjoy writing or can learn to enjoy writing

Blogging is NOT right for you if:

  • You want to get rich fast
  • You are not willing to do the work
  • You hate marketing and using social media
  • You are not willing to invest in your blog
  • You hate learning and only want to do things that are easy
  • You hate writing and not willing to invest in a writer
  • You do not have time to do the work.
  • You are not willing to learn the tech stuff

I know how overwhelming this can be, and believe me, I know what it’s like to start out feeling like a chicken with your head cut off.

That is why I want you to have realistic expectations before you get started.

If you are willing to do the work and put in your time with amateur blogging, rest assured there will be a reward at the end of the tunnel and it can potentially change your life!

Identify your Amateur Blogs Niche

If you are still willing to dive into blogging, then the first step is deciding what it is that you will be writing about.

If you have no idea how to get started, this can be an overwhelming first stage.

So here is a simple exercise that you can practice in order to find out what is the best niche you should be choosing.

On a piece of paper, make a list on one side of what you are passionate about, and on the other, what you are an expert in, or what you feel like you are good at.

Then see what overlaps between your passions and your expertise (or what you are willing to work hard to become an expert in) and that may be the best niche you should go into.

Don’t know how to create this list? No worries, you can download a FREE Find Your Niche Guide below and do the exercise ASAP!

Once you have your top picks for your ideal niche you can then do your marketing research in order to find out if there is enough interest and if it can be profitable.

You can start your market research by going to Google Trends to find out how many people are searching the topic that you are thinking of choosing for your amateur blogging.

This is a very important step because you want to make sure that the search results are either stable or growing.

Remember you don’t want to choose a niche that has a downward trend and won’t be profitable for you in the long run.

As you can see with the sample search I did using “van life”, a growing trend has been happening and could be a good niche to dive into since there is enough interest in the topic.

When you find your top 3-5 picks for your niche, the next step is to see what your competition will be like once you start amateur blogging.

The more competition you have, the harder it will be to succeed in this niche.

That is why it is important to not only find a niche you love but also something that you can succeed in.

In order to find your niche competition, you will need to do a simple google search.

Using “van life” in our google search, we can start looking to see if the competition is enough to drive interest but not too much that it will be difficult to tap into the market.

As you can see “van life” has a lot of searches, which makes this niche too broad.

Since this topic has a lot of competition, you may want a smaller niche to tap into.

To find more topics and inspiration, you can look at the “People also ask” topics which are the most popular searches that are in the niche.

Bonus tip, these questions could also be great topics to write about for your blog articles.

Another place to find more inspiration is by scrolling down and looking at the related keyword terms from your google search.

Once you find the extended keywords and topics from your initial niche, you can go to a free search tool like Wordstream that will show you the search volume.

Which means it will share how many people search this keyword per month and if your competition is high or low.

Keep in mind that they provide you with two data, one is for Google and the other is Bing search network.

Always look at Google analytics because that is where most of your audience will be coming from.

Another company that you can use, which is the one I prefer and use for our blog is a paid platform called Keysearch.co.

Although Wordstream and other free platforms give you basic information, companies like Keysearch will provide you with more details so that you have more knowledge of your competition, and better SEO for not only finding your niche but also help you with your keyword searches for your blog posts.

The difference between a paid and free keyword search platform is miles apart.

For example for Keysearch not only do share with you the volume of the searches but they will also share the score or difficulty of the keyword.

The higher the score, the higher the competition.

We will talk more about Keysearch later when we discuss SEO and how it can help you rank higher on Google so you can attract more readers.

Finding a Domain Name

Once you have finalized your niche, it is time to figure out catchy blog names for your website.

This can be a difficult decision for most people because it is part of your brand, it’s what you will be known for and what your readers will associate you with.

One of the best ways to brainstorm and find your blog name is by using the thesaurus.

I love going to thesaurus.com and looking up different variations of words to make it more unique.

But remember, it’s better to be clear than clever, so you want to make sure that the name you choose is still recognizable to your audience, and they will be able to quickly understand what your blog will be about even if they haven’t visited your site yet.

Make a list of your top name choices and don’t be afraid to ask for other people’s opinions. Oftentimes a name may seem clever and will make sense to us, but when we share it to others, it doesn’t resonate.

When you have finalized your catchy blog names, it is time to find out if the domain name is available. What does this mean?

Well, you may have the best name in the world, but if it is taken by another creator, then you will need to go back to square one.

A great way to find out if your name is still available is by going to the Bluehost homepage and search if your domain name is available.

For example, when we searched for the domain name “vanlife.com” it was already taken.

This means we can not purchase that domain for our site.

But no worries, Bluehost will give you suggestions of the domains that are still usable or you can always create new variations of the name like “Nomad in a van”, “the van life diaries”, and anything else that you can brainstorm.

Once you find your name, I suggest purchasing it through Bluehost since you can get the domain name for FREE for 12 months, as long as you purchase a year-long hosting plan.

Remember, it may take several tries before you finally find the perfect blogging name that is also available, but don’t give up, you will find the right one for you!

Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure you are also registering your final name on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube, and Twitter.

Even if you do not think you will be using those platforms right away, always register them so that you own the names before anyone has a chance to grab them, because you may regret it later.

Choosing your Blog Host

If you’re ready to find your hosting plan for your site, then congrats! You are officially ready to start amateur blogging and creating content to share with the world.

There are a ton of choices out there and I know how overwhelming it can be.

I suggest starting with a reliable hosting platform like Bluehost.

I personally used them when I began and loved how affordable and helpful their customer service was because believe me, you will definitely need a lot of help when you are just starting your amateur blogging career.

To get started setting up your Bluehost blog, you will need to choose your hosting. I recommend their basic plan that starts at only $2.95 a month.

This plan allows you to host 1 website, 50 GB SSD Storage, has custom themes, and 24/7 customer service.

When you are purchasing your Bluehost plan, make sure to choose at least 12 months with your hosting plan so you are able to get your domain name for free, and if you want a better deal, you can purchase the 36-month plan which is a lower cost in the long run.

You will also be getting a better deal than if you buy a month-to-month plan. So when you are providing your account information, be sure to select the 36-month plan for the best price

There are other options such as the pro plan, but you can skip that for now since it is more expensive and you can always upgrade to it when you are ready to have more bandwidth for your blog.

Another item that you may want to purchase is the Domain Privacy Protection, which is only $0.99 a month, and is absolutely worth it so you can have privacy with your personal information.

So just a recap of the Bluehost hosting plan rates, if you choose the 12-month plan then the overall cost will only be $59.40 a year, and if you choose the 36-month plan it will only cost around $106.20 for 3 years, which is an even better deal!

When you’re ready to purchase your hosting plan, here are the exact steps you need to take:

  1. Go to the Bluehost homepage and click on the Get Started Button.
  2. Then click on the hosting plan you prefer (remember to select at least 12-36 months of hosting so you get a FREE domain name for a year).
  3. Add a domain name that you have registered or create a new one.
  4. Then add your personal information and choose the right plan you prefer.
  5. Lastly, you will be asked to add in your password, and that’s it, you’re done!

If you have any issues, do not hesitate to use their 24/7 customer service. For the most convenient service, I recommend their live chat.

You can access this through their chat icon on the bottom right corner.

Free Work Online Training

Still confused and don’t know how to find an online job? This training will help you learn how to land your ideal remote job ASAP!

Creating Content for Your Amateur Blogs

Now that you have purchased your domain name and hosting plan, it is time to figure out the best topics to write about!

If you think that creating content for your blog is as easy as choosing a topic you like and writing about it, think again.

If you haven’t learned this already, it takes a bit of work to not only write about what you love but also create something that your readers will want to learn about.

So here are a few ways you can find the best content that will rank high on google:

Research your competitors. Guest what? You do not need to reinvent the wheel, and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. What does this mean?

Well, it means that if your competitors are doing well with a specific topic, then it may be a good idea to tap into that subject and create your own unique take that includes topics they may not have covered in their article.

So, it is always a good idea to make a list of your top competitors and see what their top posts are.

You can find your competitors by using the Keysearch.co and clicking on the “Explorer” page then adding your website name and scrolling down to see who your top competitors are.

If you are just starting out and do not have enough content to have competitors yet, you can make a list of the blogs in your niche.

You can easily find them by doing your market research through google.

Keyword Researching. Once you find your competitors, it is time to find the top posts and keywords that they are ranking on google.

What is a keyword you ask?

Well, these are the words that your ideal readers are searching for on the search engines, and in order to be found, you must be able to target the right keywords so that you are able to be ranked and seen on google searches.

In order to do this, you will enter Keysearch.co  and do the following:

1. Click on “competitive analysis”

2. Click on “Organic Keywords”

3. Add your competitor’s website link then click search.

Once you click search, it will show you the keywords that your competitors’ websites are ranking for on google.

This is a great way for you to see which keywords you should target in your own article.

Another great tool you can use is adding a specific blog post link and choosing the “Specific Page” option to find the keywords that they are ranking for that specific blog post.

This trick will make it easier for you to find the right keywords to choose for specific posts.

This is why investing in Keysearch.co is so important because without this tool, or something like it, you will just be playing the guessing game and it will take longer to rank on the search engines or not at all.

Using a keyword search tool is a game-changer and will allow you to up your amateur blogging game!

I love this simple video on how to write a blog post, the tips are super helpful and will be super useful for your writing process.

Promoting your Blog Posts

Your blogging journey is not complete without learning how to promote your content.

If you are not familiar or a bit intimidated just thinking about the marketing aspect, don’t worry, all of us have been there.

Although there are plenty of platforms to promote your blog, it is best to find only one or two to focus your energy on, so that you are not overwhelmed and you can get really good at promoting on that platform.

Below are the best and most popular ways bloggers promote their articles:

Pinterest. Pinterest is a great tool for people to use in order to find inspiration for DIY projects and other sources of information.

Many bloggers have been able to create consistent traffic by using this platform.

Since it is a visual search tool, you need to create Pinterest pins that will be attractive to your ideal audience.

Like google search, you will also need to add keywords in order for your pins to be searchable.

I recommend taking Moly Ho’s Pinterest for Creatives Course which is designed to teach you how to market your blog so you are able to gain more traffic and readers.

I love this course because Molly makes it super simple and easy to follow and it will also allow you to learn about lead generation and making sales right from the beginning.

Because let’s face it, your blog will always be a hobby unless you create consistent income.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I personally believe that the best way to gain traffic to your site is through SEO.

SEO is a way for you to improve your visibility so that your ideal audience will be able to find you in search engines.

Investing in a keyword search tool like Keysearch.co is a must in order to fully understand the analytics so that you will be able to rank your site on the first page of Google.

If you want to know how to fully utilize SEO with your blog, I recommend the SEO Buddy Checklist

What I love about this program is that unlike your typical courses it not only teaches you how to implement SEO so you can gain more traffic but it provides you with a comprehensive checklist that will allow you to take action while you’re learning.

Believe me, it wasn’t until I started implementing SEO in The Offbeat Life, that we started to see tens of thousands of visits to our site per month.

So it is a crucial part of your blogging success that you can’t overlook.

Making Money with Your Blog

It is never too early to think about creating income with your blog and there are several ways you can do it so that you can create multiple streams of income.

Here are a few ways you can create income with your blog:

Affiliate marketing. I love promoting affiliate marketing to my readers and listeners because it is passive income.

Meaning, you do the initial work in the beginning and earn money even when the work is done.

In order to create income from affiliate marketing, you will need to find the right brands and companies to work with who accept affiliate partnerships.

You will then promote their products on your site through an affiliate link and whenever someone purchases the product or service, you will get a percentage of the payment.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to create passive income, however, you will need to gain enough traffic and audience in order to fully utilize this strategy.

That is why growing your site is important.

To learn more about affiliate marketing, check out my blog on the top affiliate programs you can join to make money from home.

Take a look at the list and start joining the companies that apply to your niche. And remember, only promote the products that you know are reputable and you can trust.

Sponsored posts. Once you have gained enough audience on your website,  another great way to create income is through sponsored posts.

Creating income through sponsored posts means that you will be promoting a product, but unlike affiliate marketing, you are getting paid for your work upfront, instead of when you are able to sell the product.

If you plan to make money with sponsored posts, I would suggest learning how to negotiate your rates with brands.

That way you are able to price your work and content accordingly without being underpaid.

This takes a bit of time and practice, but my biggest advice is to not be afraid to negotiate, which means you do not have to always take the first offer unless you are completely happy with the rates.

However, if you are just starting out, it may be better to take a lower commission so you are able to build your portfolio and ask for higher rates once you have shown your value.

There are also bloggers who do collaborations where they receive products for free in exchange for a mention of the company on their blog.

This is a good idea if you are an amateur at blogging and need the experience.

However once you have done several campaigns and your audience is growing, it is best to begin asking for payment as well as the product.

In order to create these partnerships, you can either pitch, which means you contact and connect with brands and let them know you want to collaborate, or the brands reach out to you and you negotiate the terms.

Do not be afraid to pitch even if you are just starting your blog because what you are trying to gain is experience.

Remember, the no’s will lessen, but the experience will help you grow.

Website Ads. Another way to create passive income with your blog is through website ads.

In order to have ads on your site, you can join blogger ad networks like Ezoic who doesn’t have a limited threshold on how many page views you get a month on your blog, which means you can join as a beginner.

However, they do require you to take a few lessons before you are admitted to the network.

Another option is to wait until your blog has grown to join networks like Mediavine who requires you to have at least 50K sessions in the previous 30 days.

Depending on your blogging goals there are pros and cons to joining early or waiting to get into the more selective networks.

The pro to joining early is that you are able to create revenue for your site right away and you do not need to wait until you have 50K sessions a month, which can take a long time.

The con is that even though you have ads on your site since you do not have a lot of traffic, the amount of money you will earn will not be a lot, and in some cases, the ads may become a distraction to your readers which may lower the visit duration on your website.

Whether you decide to use the ad networks right away or wait until you have gained traffic, site ads are a great way to create passive income, as long as you are able to continue to provide a good user experience.

Digital Products. The last income stream that I will be discussing is creating digital products for your website.

It is one of my favorite ways to monetize my blog and is another passive income stream that has allowed me to make money even after the work is done.

A digital product is anything that is downloadable and not a physical item. A few examples are e-books, courses, audiobooks, video tutorials, and pdf templates.

In order to create a successful digital product, you must be able to provide your audience with something that they need so that they will be willing to pay for the product, otherwise, it will not sell.

For example, if you are talking about van life in your blog post, you should not be selling a digital product that shows your audience how to lose weight in 30 days.

If you want to learn how to consistently get paid with digital products, I suggest joining Molly’s Keep Getting Paid Membership.

You have to make sure that your products pertain to your niche and your audience’s needs.

I love this membership because not only is it taught by Molly, who has sold thousands of digital products, but her membership also provides the most comprehensive lessons and accountability that you need in order to succeed.

And unlike other courses where you are given the content and then left to fend for yourself, the membership will allow you to get access to other members and the founder herself!

This means more opportunities to learn from a pro while connecting with others who can give you valuable advice that you need in order to succeed as a digital product creator.

Now that you have read my ultimate guide to amateur blogging, it is time for you to get started. I know it can seem intimidating, but the best way to start is to take the first step and learn as you go.

Nothing is going to be perfect on the first try, so continue even when you fail, and be consistent even when the growth is slow because it will only be a matter of time before you will find success.

So go ahead, go out there, and get started with your blog today!

Then make sure to let me know once you publish your site so I can check it out!

13 Common Mistakes Most Amateur Bloggers Make

Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliate links, meaning at no additional cost to you, I will make a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

If you’re here it’s because you have decided to start a blog, and we are all for it!

Starting a blog is one of the best ways to earn income from home and it can even become almost 100% passive if you have the right strategies.

But we also know how overwhelming it can be and there are learning curves that every newbie blogger has to experience.

We want to make sure that you are not making the same mistakes that many amateur bloggers have made (including us) when you’re starting out.

That is why we have listed the top 13 common mistakes that most newbie bloggers have made so you can avoid them and proceed with a bit more confidence than we did.

RELATED POSTS:

Pros and Cons of Starting Amateur Blogs

Before we share with you what mistakes to avoid, let’s talk about the pros and cons of starting a blog, so that you can make better decisions on whether starting this platform is right for you.

Pros of starting a blog

First and foremost, it is one of the best ways to share your knowledge and passions with the world.

When we started The Offbeat Life blog, for example, it was because we wanted to create resources to help others start online businesses and start working remotely

After years of working consistently, it has become a huge part of our business and we are lucky enough to be able to earn an income doing what we love from our blog, and we want you to do the same too!

Another reason for starting a blog is that it will allow you to work from home.

Since most of the work you will be doing for your site is to write compelling and high-quality content, it can be done anywhere, and having this freedom is a huge perk for any amateur blogger.

Lastly, creating passive income from your blog is one of the biggest reasons why you should be starting your site today!

What is passive income you ask?

Well, it means you will be doing initial work such as creating articles, and digital products for your blog, and then make money even when you are no longer actively working on it.

You can create passive income from your blog with affiliate marketing, digital products, ads, sponsorships, and more.

Cons of starting a blog

Although there are a ton of reasons why you should be starting your own blog, there are also some cons to this lifestyle and business.

One of the biggest is that it can take a long time to start earning money from your amateur blog.

In a study done by Life Hacker, they found that around 81% of bloggers never made more than $100 blogging, while only 8% made enough to support themselves from their site.

This goes to show you that without the right strategy and persistence it can be a tough road ahead.

Another con to starting a blog is that it does have a lot of competition.

With as many as 600 million blogs and over 7.5 million articles being published daily, you will have a lot of rivals for readership.

With that said, there will always be room for amateur bloggers who have tenacity, persistence, and patience to commit to this platform.

If you are willing to take the time to do great work and market your content, it will only be a matter of time before you can see results.

Avoid these Top Mistakes Most Amateur Bloggers Make

If you’ve come this far, we can assume that you are still very much interested in starting your own blog. Congrats! Now it is time for the real work to begin.

Below are the top mistakes you should avoid before you get started.

Not choosing the right niche.

This goes without saying, but if you are thinking of starting a blog, you must choose the right niche.

Of course, you are free to talk about anything you want, but if you want to create income, you must become an authority on a specific niche, otherwise, your audience will be confused and they will most likely read a post and not come back.

On the other hand, if you choose a specific niche and only write specific topics that are in that realm, over time you will be considered an authority and you will be able to attract the right audience for your website.

By choosing a niche, you will also make the work a lot easier in terms of searching for the right topics to write about, since you are more focused and it is not all over the place.

A great exercise to practice when you are starting to choose your niche is to make a list of what you are passionate about and what you are an expert in.

If you are able to combine both, then you may have the perfect niche for you.

If you need more help trying to decide your perfect niche.

Feel free to sign up below to download our FREE Find Your Blog Niche Excercise template, to make the process a lot easier!

But keep in mind, even if you are not an expert in a particular subject but you have the passion and drive, you can become an expert in the long run.

So if expertise is the only thing holding you back, don’t worry. Give it a try and who knows what can happen!

Not self hosting.

Many amateur bloggers are often unsure about how to host their site, which is why they make the mistake of not self-hosting.

What is website hosting you ask?

Website hosting will allow your content to be seen on the internet. So without it, your blog will not be published, which means no audience and no income.

Most newbie bloggers get confused with the type of hosting that they need and will use a free platform like Wix, and WordPress.com.

Although you get the perk of free hosting, it also means that you will have a lot of limitations such as restrictions on storage and bandwidth which will limit your growth and can slow your website, resulting in a bad user experience.

That is why we recommend a paid hosting platform like Bluehost which is not only affordable starting at only $2.95 a month but is also a domain that you own!

Choosing shared hosting is a perfect choice for bloggers just starting out, and of course, you can always upgrade your hosting when you need more power and bandwidth.

Bluehost also has reliable 24/7 service, which is ideal since we are sure you will need some help to set up your site in the beginning.

Not learning SEO.

If you want to start a successful blog, then learning SEO is crucial.

Many amateur bloggers start without familiarizing themselves with SEO and this is a huge mistake because you are leaving a lot of traffic on the table!

What is SEO you ask? It means search engine optimization.

In order to properly optimize your site, you will need to learn how to find the right keywords to include in your blog posts, understand backlinking and so much more in order to rank on the google search engine.

If you are confused, don’t worry, we were too.

It took us almost two years to finally start learning SEO on The Offbeat Life blog, and we wish we learned sooner because once we started implementing the right SEO strategies we were able to gain more readers.

Right now 75% of our readers are coming from organic traffic which would not have happened if we did not use SEO strategies.

If you are looking to learn more about SEO and how to properly implement it to your site, we recommend using SEO Buddy’s – SEO checklist which is an easy to follow checklist that will show you the exact steps you need to take in order to rank on Google searches.

What we love about this program is that it not only teaches you about SEO but it also comes in a checklist form!

This means it encourages active learning, making it so much more effective than your typical e-courses.

It is so easy that even amateur bloggers can get on the first page of google.

So no need to waste time researching, it has everything you need in one checklist.

Having an Ugly Website

Even though quality content is king when you are starting a blog, making it appealing so that it attracts your ideal reader is also important.

That is why investing in a good theme is crucial to a successful blog.

You want the look of your website to be easy to navigate but will also lure your readers to want more. We know it can be tempting to settle for a free website, and don’t get us wrong, we did the same thing too when we first started.

But with just a bit of investment, you can find beautiful themes where you can plug all your information without having to do any of the hard work.

wpengine

We are partial to WordPress sites and our favorite platform where you can find beautiful themes is through WPEngine – Genesis Themes.

This platform is a one-stop shop where you’ll find the right look for your site and also get your web hosting there too!

Not Link building

Many amateur bloggers think that creating content is enough to rank on google.

But this isn’t true at all, there is still more to do in terms of marketing, and link building is a big part of it.

What’s link-building you ask?

Well, it is the process of getting links from your site to other similar niched websites so that you are able to build authority for your page.

Why is this important?

By building authority, it shows Google that your website can be trusted and your site deserves to be placed on the first page of google.

A few ways you can build links is through:

Guest posting: meaning you will be writing articles for other websites that are in a similar niche as yours so that you can build the authority for your page.

You can start guest posting by simply pitching to other blogs and providing them with original work that they would want on their page.

Creating internal links: by creating internal links you will be linking one page to another page on your website.

But keep in mind, with any links you are creating, you want to make sure that it is naturally placed in the content and makes sense to the article.

Free Work Online Training

Still confused and don’t know how to find an online job? This training will help you learn how to land your ideal remote job ASAP!

Getting featured in larger publications: one of the best ways to link building is by getting mentioned in large publications.

This may seem a bit intimidating, but we can assure you that it is not. One way to do this is by pitching yourself to writers and editors of the publications that you would like to be featured in.

Again, you want to make sure that your story is relevant to what the writers are interested in.

So when you are writing your content, make sure to not just focus on your topic but also how you market your article through link building.

No consistency

One of the biggest mistakes we see with amateur blogs is not having consistency with their content. Meaning, they may write 3 articles one week, and only one article the next month.

We know it can be tough to stay consistent especially if you also work a 9-5, but you have to make sure that your content schedule must be consistent along with its quality.

Otherwise, you will not gain traction and it will not grow into a successful business.

In order to ensure that your content is consistent, make sure that you are being honest with how much you can do, and when you decide on a schedule, stick to it!

Not collecting emails

Another common mistake that we have seen in many amateur bloggers is not collecting emails right from the beginning.

For many, this is because they are unfamiliar with the process and unsure how to entice their readers to provide their emails.

In order to collect emails from your readers, you have to make sure that you are giving them content that they will be interested in learning more about.

For example, if your article is about how to sew a dress, you do not want them to sign up for an email all about fixing cars.

So, make sure that your content is relevant to your audience’s interests.

flodesk

When you are ready to start collecting emails, we recommend using Flodesk, it’s the exact platform that we use for our own site.

We love it because it is user-friendly and very affordable.

Flodesk also has beautiful templates that you can use, so if you aren’t creative, no need to worry, this platform has everything you need to design beautiful emails for your readers.

Not planning and batching content

If you want to avoid being overwhelmed, you have to create a plan and batch your content, otherwise, you will always be playing catch up. This is a common mistake for many amateur bloggers and we also became a victim of this too.

What does batching mean? It means that you are creating multiple articles and any other content in advance so you are ahead of the game.

Once you get into the groove of planning and batching, you will always be caught up and the overwhelm will lessen.

Not promoting your posts on social media

We see this all the time, you create your amazing content and then you’re just waiting for it to take off.

Weeks and months later, you’re still wondering why your article is not ranking on google and there are barely any views on your site. Then you’re wondering what went wrong.

Well friend, it’s because you missed a big part of the process, which is to share your content on social media.

If you are like so many others and feel cringe just thinking about creating social media content, don’t worry you can always recycle your content.

What this means is you can take snippets from your article and create graphics from your best quotes.

This will allow you to reuse existing content without having to do too much extra work.

Another strategy that will make your life easier is to start scheduling your social media ahead of time so you can just set it and forget it!

One of the platforms we love that helps you schedule all of your marketing needs in one place is Planoly.

This scheduling platform allows you to do more with less time by allowing you to schedule content on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook!

Not investing in your blog

As a newbie blogger, we understand that you may be hesitant about spending money on your site.

But you also have to understand that if you plan to make this into a business, you have to make sure that you’re able to provide the highest quality content along with your services.

Yes, there are a ton of free resources out there, but we can tell you first hand, it lacks the services that you will need to turn your amateur blog into a full-fledged successful website that will rake in viewership you need to create income.

We suggest creating a budget for yourself so you are able to control the spending, while also investing in your business so that it can succeed at full capacity.

And we can tell you personally that when we finally invested in our blog, it not only made enough money, but it is now paying for itself!

Not creating high-quality content

If you think that blogging is just writing a few paragraphs and calling it a day, then you’re sadly mistaken.

With millions of blogs that are out there, the competition is tough, which means you have to step up to the plate and provide your readers the best information and content.

That is why creating high-quality content is extremely important in order to become successful and have longevity in this business.

Copying content

This goes without saying – plagiarism is bad.

Not only because you are copying another creator’s content, and claiming it as your own, but Google is extremely smart and will punish you if you are dumb enough to copy someone else’s work.

So, please DO NOT plagiarise.

You can create similar topics because let’s face it, you do not need to reinvent the wheel to start blogging, but you do have to make sure that you are putting your own personal spin on the information.

Impatience – giving up when they don’t see results right away.

Did you know that most blogs fail in the first year?

That is because this platform is not a place where you should expect to get rich quickly or skyrocket to fame right away.

It takes a lot of time, energy, and learning to find success and you will need to fail a lot of times before you can get the results you want.

So if you are blogging and do not see your desired outcome after a few months or even after a year, do not worry.

Your strategies may just need more time to take effect, or maybe it is time to take a look at your systems and see what changes you need to make.

We are almost four years into this blog and we are still learning and failing, so believe us, you are not alone!

Now that you know the 13 common mistakes that most amateur bloggers make, it is time to go out there and start your own blog.

If you are dedicated, patient, and willing to fail before you can succeed, we are sure you will find long-term success.

What is a sex blog and how do you start one?

Before we share how you can start earning money, let’s talk about what a sex blog actually is and what you have to do in order to start one.

So what does a sex blogger do you ask?

Depending on your niche and expertise you can be sharing informative and clinical information or it can be anecdotal and real stories about your experiences or others regarding sex.

It is really up to you and what type of content you want to include in your sex blog.

As long as your content is high quality, what your ideal audience actually wants and you are consistent, we are sure you will find success long term.

Printable Blog Content Planner

This 10-page blog content planner can be printed to use all year long and will help you break down tasks into manageable chunks!

Pick a niche. Before you can get started as a sex blogger, you have to decide on a specific niche, so you know exactly who to attract.

In order to choose properly, you have to figure out what you are passionate about and what your ideal audience actually wants.

How do you figure this out you ask? Here are a few ways you can understand your readers:

  • Join groups that are in the same or similar niches. Once you have joined, take a look at the questions and the topics that they are constantly asking and speaking about.
  • Take a look at your competitors and see what are the most popular topics they are ranking on google search, using SEO keyword search tools like Keysearch will help you find out.

Once you’ve chosen your topic you’re ready to get started.

Remember, it may take a lot of brainstorming before you can find the right niche for you, so don’t get discouraged and feel free to run it by a few people who are your ideal readers.

If you are unsure about how to figure out your passions, an easy exercise would be to write down everything you are passionate about and see which one you would be willing to talk about for years to come.

It will take a while to see growth so you have to make sure that whatever you choose, you will be interested in for a long time.

Choosing a name. When you are choosing your blog name you want to make sure that it is simple to remember, easy to spell, and easy for your audience to know what your site will be about.

That is why being clear is always better than being clever.

A great place to find your ideal blog name is by using Bluehost, not only is this platform the place to get a hosting plan for your site, but it is also where you can search if the domain name is available to purchase.

In order to do this, you want to click on the domains button on the Bluehost home page

When you click on the domain’s link you will be taken to a new page where you can type your desired name to see if it is already taken, or not.

Make sure that you are patient and write a list of the names that you would like, because unfortunately most of those names may be taken.

When you type your desired names, you will then be taken to a new page that will show you if the name is available or unavailable.

If the name isn’t taken, then CONGRATS! Make sure to purchase the name on Bluehost right away before it is taken.

If it is taken, then no worries keep brainstorming until you find the right name that is right for you and available to buy.

Again, make sure that you are making a list of the possible names you would like for your show.

It never hurts to ask for second opinions, but at the end of the day, you want to make sure that your name is clear, and what YOU want.

Choosing a website theme. Once you have found the right sex blog name, it is time to find out the best website theme.

If you don’t know what a website site theme is, it is the overall style and looks of your website.

So you want to make sure that your theme is right for your niche and brand.

Don’t worry, your website theme and look do not have to be perfect from the beginning, you can always make changes.

The right theme can be tough to figure out, but typically the features you’ll want are as follows:

  • Easy-to-read text
  • A simplistic, yet a beautiful design to look at.
  • Interactive and mobile friendly

For those of you who are not technically savvy, no worries!

You don’t have to learn coding to have a beautiful theme. You can purchase them from reliable platforms that have done the work, so you don’t have to!

The best place to find beautiful and interactive themes is through WPEngine Genesis Themes.

In order to find the best themes, you can visit the WPEngine, scroll down, and click “learn more” to see the options.

You will then be taken to a new page where you will have several choices. You can purchase a theme separately.

If you are thinking of purchasing multiple themes and need extra support, you can purchase the Genesis Pro subscription.

If you need hosting with your plan you can also purchase a combined hosting plan with your theme.

Hosting your sex blog. Before you can start creating your content for your blog, you will need a platform to host your website.

Why do you need a hosting plan, you ask? Well, without a hosting plan you will not be able to make your site accessible to the internet, which means your audience can’t access your content.

Luckily, Bluehost also offers hosting plans that start at $2.95 a month, and you will get 24/7 support when you need it.

We love that Bluehost is an all-in-one platform where you can purchase your domain name, get your hosting plan and you can even sign up for special WordPress hosting.

When you’re ready to purchase your hosting plan, make sure to click on the hosting link, and depending on your needs, you will have several options on how to choose the right hosting plan.

The most popular plan is the shared hosting which is only $2.95 a month, and of course, there are other plans that you can choose that will be perfect for growth.

Creating your Content

Once your blog is built, you can get started in creating content! Of course, before you can get started you will need to figure out what topics to choose.

Below are some suggestions that could be perfect for your blog about sex, however, there is a ton more information you can share and these are just a few:

  • Sex Education: If you’re interested in a more scholarly approach and teach people about biology relating to sex or other sexual facts, this is likely your topic of choice.
  • Kink Sex Information: is defined as unconventional sexual behaviors, you will have the freedom to talk about topics that relate to roleplaying, fetishm, domination, submission and other forms of erotic descipline.
  • Erotic Fiction/Nonfiction: erotic stories is one of the most popular topics for sex bloggers. People love reading about personal experiences and if you are a great writer, you will attract a lot of viewers.

It is OK to mix and match these categories before you choose your blog niche and in time you will find the right one for you.

An easy example of mixing would be an erotic story that has some sort of educational value to it. It is your blog about sex, so don’t be scared to experiment with it!

Now that you’ve got an idea of the type of content you want to create, let’s get into the writing process!

One of the first things you’ll need to know is that great writing matters, you will be surprised how many readers would rather read well-written content with the right information, than a pretty website that is not understandable.

That is why providing beautifully written articles with the right editing must be done. We recommend using Grammarly to help ease your editing process.

Inspiration can be hard to come by, which is why you might want to try looking for ideas or memes to use on your blog about sex.

You can find these ideas on other blogs or platforms like Reddit.

Finding new inspiration is a great way to ensure that you have content on the slow days and can serve as a great way to reach out to the wider sex blogger community!

Making Money as a Sex Blogger

Making money takes time since you will need to establish an audience for your sex blog. In order to create income as a sex blogger, you will need to find multiple streams of revenue with both active and passive monetization plans.

Here are a few ways you can create income when you create a blog about sex:

Sponsorship. Having a sponsorship is one of the best ways to earn money from a blog, of course, securing one will require you to have a significant audience to warrant the attention of the brands you’re hoping to write sponsored posts for.

Landing a sponsorship means working with a brand and promoting their services or products on your website.

In return, they will pay you for being on your site so they can tap into your audience and hopefully attract them to purchase.

Affiliate Programs are another great way to create income as a sex blogger.

In order to make money with affiliates, you will need to write about a product or a service, and once your audience purchases, you will get a commission.

This is a great way to create an income because it can become passive, meaning that once you do the initial work, you can create income indefinitely.

If you want to learn more about affiliate marketing and which top companies you can apply to for their program, we’ve done a complete guide on the best affiliate programs

Digital Products is one of the best ways to create passive income for your sex blog.

You can create a downloadable product and sell it on your site to create passive income.

Digital products are downloadable items such as e-books, pdf files, checklists, and anything digital.

Website Ads. Another way to monetize your blog is by adding ads to your website.

However, keep in mind that when you are just starting out you may not make a lot of money from your ads since your ability to make more income will be based on the number of visitors you get on your website.

Also, depending on the ad agencies, you will have to check whether they accept sex blogs on their platform.

Just remember that everyone starts small, even the largest sex blogs began as smaller websites that eventually grew because they put in the time and effort into their content.

Building your audience

So how does a new sex blogger with no audience, gain a following?

There are different ways you can gain an audience even as a beginner and here are a few strategies you can use to get you started:

Social media is a great way to share your blog posts, in order to do this you will have to create compelling content that will attract your ideal audience.

A few platforms where you can share your content are Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Pinterest, and Youtube.

But remember, you do not need to be on every social media to make an impact, you just have to make sure that it is where your audience visits and it is right for you.

Another option is to become a content creator on larger platforms like Youtube or Instagram.

The popular choice is to start a website and to use Bluehost for your site host. Many bloggers are opting to use Bluehost due to its reliability and user-friendly interface.
